How can I stay safe?

Flu is a serious illness that can lead to hospitalization or even death.  Protect yourself and your family with a flu shot.  A flu shot fortifies your body against H1N1 and other strains. The CDC recommends that anyone over 6 months of age get a flu shot – and people with chronic health conditions like asthma, diabetes, heart and lung disease are at especially high risk and a flu shot is highly recommended.   So stay safe, get your shot, and Give Health a Hand with UnitedHealthcare.

How can I avoid getting the flu?

Mom had some of the best advice for staying well:  Wash your hands.  Flu is transferred mainly from person to person through coughing and sneezing.  And sometimes you can become infected by touching something with the flu virus on it, like a door knob, phone, or computer, then touching your nose or mouth.  So your number one defense is washing your hands.  Also be aware of large crowds because the more people, the more likely one of them has the flu.  Give Health a Hand with UnitedHealthcare.

What can I do to protect my family from the flu virus?

Kids touch and play with everything so their chance of getting the flu is higher than an adult’s.  Keep your family safe by reminding everyone to wash their hands, or use an alcohol based hand sanitizer.  You can also use a regular household disinfectant to wipe down surfaces everyday.  Pay particular attention to counter tops, kids’ toys, computer key boards and phones, along with door knobs.  So remember to stay safe and Give Health a Hand with UnitedHealthcare.

What happened to the H1N1 flu virus?

While the H1N1 flu isn’t making news, it didn’t go away.  It’s one of three strains of flu you should watch out for this year.  A flu shot will help fortify your body against the H1N1 virus, and the other strains, too.  But there’s a lot you can do to help stop the spread of germs. Wash your hands regularly.  Cough or sneeze into your arm not your hand, and be careful about touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, because those are the number one ways the virus gets into your body.  Give Health a Hand with UnitedHealthcare.
