Aerosmith dominated the hard rock scene in the ‘70s, and even though they had a rocky period, they continued to crank out hit after hit, selling over 100 million albums.

When it comes to the band’s live performances, though, it’s hard to deny the electrifying stage presence of two band members: Steven Tyler and … his microphone. Together, the Demon of Screamin’ and his scarf-covered microphone have cut more than a few rugs. Below, we break down some of our favorite on-stage moments from the duo—watch ‘til the end, and you just may learn a thing or two.

“Sweet Emotion”

Starting off with a bang, these Tyler-mic dance moves are hard to top.

“Cryin’”

Gentle caress. Shakin’ it up a little bit. Air guitar. This one’s got it all.

“Dream On”

Midnight Special. 1974. (And can we just talk about how incredible young Steven Tyler's voice was?)

“Walk This Way”

The audience gets in on the mic action. And Tyler goes into the crowd with those acrobatics.

“I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing”

… it’s as if he’s not just singing into the microphone but to the microphone.
