Watch The Who's Last Performance with John Entwistle Just Days Before His Death

June 27, 2017

Today marks the fifteenth anniversary of the death of The Who’s bass player, John Entwistle on June 27, 2002.

Entwistle had a massive physical presence that landed him the nickname “The Ox,” but it was his incredible skill and use of 200-watt amps that gave him a different nickname: “Thunderfingers.” Below, watch The Who play with the famed bassist—playing “I Can See For Miles” during rehearsal—for the last time on June 13, 2002. (Be forewarned: It’s not the best quality.)

While Entwistle had passed away suddenly the night before the band was to kick off their 2002 tour in Las Vegas, the band decided that the show must go on, playing the Hollywood Bowl four days later. Since Entwistle’s death, The Who have continued to play with either Pino Palladino or Jon Button on bass.
