So, Casey and I were talking today about some of rock's most underrated guitar solos. I threw out the dude; I don't even know his name, who played on Two Tickets to Paradise. Mike countered with Reeling in the Years from Steely Dan. Elliot Randall's playing was certainly stellar, but underrated. So my question is...what guitar solos would you introduce into the discussion?
I'd like to nominate Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple performing Highway Star.
Mike Campbell's solo in Tom Petty's "Runnin' Down a Dream"
hey mike , try lindsey buckingham's, so afraid, he goes to a rampaging elephant by the end. i suggest the ball concert the mans fingers are bleeding by the end of his performance.
hey mike and dan, what about robin trower, or pat traverse? even stephen stills .all of them highly underrated, or sammy hagar with ronnie montrose. all freakin amazing ! or even an out of your genre , roy clark, . roger mcquin. i could go on and on. thanks for the thought provoking blog.
Boston- Hitch a Ride end solo... Tom Scholz/Barry Godreau
Styx- Crystal Ball end solo... Tommy Shaw? Might've been James Young I'm not sure.
As for Robin Trower The Daydream and Too Rolling Stoned are 2 of my favorites.
Free- Mr Big Paul Kossof as well as Andy Fraser's bass solo.
Riot-Here we come again and Narita ..Mark Reale
Gary Moore-Empty Room. .live in Stockholm 1987
Thin Lizzy- The Cowboy Song... Scott Gorham/Brian Robertson
Thin Lizzy-The Rocker.. Eric Bell
UFO-Rock Bottom ..Michael Schenker
Yngwie Malmsteen-Black Star
Rainbow-A Light in the Black.. Ritchie Blackmorex
Rush-Limelight.. Alex Lifeson
There's more, but these are some of my personal favorites ,..Of course, some of these probably aren't underrated at all.
Sorry about all the typos in my post.. Hope o it's not too hard to read.
