THE SAN Francisco Giants will pay tribute to the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia at AT&T Park on Aug. 9, the 15th anniversary of the iconic Marin rock star's death.
Garcia's daughter, Annabelle Garcia, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at 7:15 p.m., before the Giants face the Chicago Cubs.
Garcia's former bandmate, Bob Weir, will sing the National Anthem and Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart will lead a seventh inning stretch extravaganza - 7,000 fans playing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" on kazoos, an attempt to set a Guinness World Record.
Deadheads who buy a special event ticket for $175 will be able to sit in a special Jerry Garcia section and will receive a Garcia bobblehead doll portraying the guitarist's "National Anthem" performance at Candlestick Park in 1993. The package includes a lower box game ticket, food and drinks and a Q&A session with Garcia's family members, bandmates and friends. Part of the proceeds will go to the Grateful Dead's charitable Rex Foundation.
In addition, pre-game "Jerry Day" activities include Grateful Dead cover bands and a home plate video tribute to Garcia, who died of a heart attack in 1995 at age 53. Tickets are available at www.sfgiants.com/specialevents , or by calling 972-2233.
I googled Jerry Garcia Bobblehead and there are others you can buy. This one in particular looks to be available only at the game (and after I'm sure on E-bay)
