7 Essential Albums from the 80's You are Required to Own

Tonight on "The List" it was my pleasure to try to impose my taste in music on you again by choosing the 7 Albums from the 80's that are a must for your collection.  If you had only 7...I feel these albums would stand up to repeated listening...at least for a while!  Joshua Tree-U2-The transformation from college favorites to the most important band in the last 30 years was complete with its release in 1987  Born in the USA-Bruce Springsteen-Tight Rock, Tight Ass, new bulging muscles and 7 top 40 hits on one album-A made-over Boss ruled the airwaves for a couple of years following it's release.  Synchronicity-The Police-A fantastic farewell from the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers.  Back in Black-AC/DC-Following the death of Bon Scott the High Voltage band from down under released their 'benchmark" album.  A strong way to honor the memory of their friend...and carry on his work  Peter Gabriel-So-It had been almost 12 years since he left Genesis and sat atop Solsbury Hill to visualize his future outside the band.  With the Grammy nominated and critically praised "So"-Gabriel was as close to the mainstream as he had ever been  REM-Murmur-In April 1980 performing as Twisted Kites the band that would become REM played a birthday party for their friend Kathleen O'Brien.  They Played  a number of garage, psychedelic bubblegum, and punk covers in a converted Episcopalian church. By the summer…goodbye Twisted Kites and hello REM-In1987, just as U2 had done with The Joshua Tree, REM completed their journey from College Campus Rock Icons to mainstream Superstars and future Hall of Famers with the release of Document.  They continue to stretch and satisfy musically  Paul Simon-Graceland-Much like Peter Gabriel, Paul Simon was eager to embrace "World Music".  With this Grammy winning album Paul shared with us his knack for writing intelligent and engaging lyrics while stretching out musically.  Much of Graceland was recorded in South Africa and the talents of Ladysmith Black Mambazo made it one of the true adventures in listening from the 80's  Well...as I like to say, "That's it...That's The List!  I look forward to reading your thoughts.
